Relationship therapy
Relationship therapy
Couples therapy, also known as systemic- or family therapy, is a form of therapy that aims to improve a (marital) relationship between two people. Sooner or later, many people face relationship problems, such as miscommunication, infidelity, or changing feelings. If you can no longer resolve things together and both of you are motivated to give the relationship a fair chance, couples therapy/counseling can be an option. Couples therapy can be used not only in romantic relationships but also within friendships, family dynamics and/or family systems.
Relationship therapy focuses on making the (dysfunctional) dynamics within a relationship conscious and improving communication between the parties involved. It can also provide insight into whether or not to continue the relationship.
During the first session (intake), I will ask various questions as part of an exploratory conversation, to get a clear overview of what’s going on and what the specific needs are. Couples therapy can also be started preventively, with the goal of creating a strong foundation, so future problems can be avoided or if they arise, be recognized and solved more quickly.
With years of experience, I have developed my own style of couples therapy. In addition to knowledge and insight, I use various methods in an eclectic manner. This means that I give certain assignments, depending on the issues, challenges, needs, and personal situation.
