About me
What is the meaning of Solmir Colors and who am I?
Solmir Colors is the name of my practice, a name with a deeper meaning, which I choose carefully. Sol means sun and Mir means peace. The bright white light of the sun contains all the colours of the rainbow, although we don’t always see them. So sunlight as we perceive it , is actually made up of a spectrum of colours, including red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. All colours carry a specific energy and I believe there is a life energy that connects and moves everything in the world, as a fundamental force that shapes the Universe. So light, colours and energy are inherently connected and inseparable from mental health and overall well-being.
With a background in Educational and Developmental Psychology, I initially worked in mental health care (GGZ in the Netherlands), where I supported children, adolescents, and adults facing various mental challenges. These included, among others; depression, mood disorders, anxiety, PTSD, burnout, obsessive-compulsive disorder, ADHD, autism and personality disorders.
As my career in mental health care progressed, I began to explore other fields, including education, supported living and guiding young adults towards independence. I later worked as a teacher and also assisted highly sensitive and gifted young people, often with the help of horses. I started giving therapy with horses; a form of equine based coaching. These different environments provided me with a broad range of experience and insights.
At a certain point, equine-assisted coaching became my primary focus. Due to the high demand, I dedicated several years exclusively to this form of therapy. Over time, a new path began to unfold and I decided to quit my practice and went travelling. When I returned to the Netherlans, I resumed my practice with a renewed focus on psychological support, coaching and guidance. A couple of years ago I decided to stop with coaching with horses for an indefinite period, but this can be a possible new offer in the future. I love animals and I live on a farm with my horses, dogs, cats and rabbits.
Ultimately, my life’s journey has brought me many adventures, lessons, experiences and knowledge, all of which I implement in my work today.
